2 funny pictures

Because time is of the essence (and I don't have much of mine to share tonight)....

I wanted to share 2 funny pictures of my niece and nephew.

Here's the back story:

Timmy and I lived in Columbia. We liked it there, and life was good.

My sister and her family lived in Kansas City.

Out of the blue, a colleague of Timmy's emailed him a stellar job opening in Kansas City. I was all over that idea, because of my one and only sis and her darling child (and now, there are 2, so that makes it "children") lived there.

Long story short, we moved here, he loves his job, I love this city, and life for me is exactly as I ever hoped it to be.

[Creative] work isn't the only thing that makes my heart flutter...
These two young'ns do the trick, too.

Much Love,

Sylvia C.

PS- Thanks for all of your lovely comments. Especially from some of my favorite German cousins!

What's Your "Bio" Say?

If you are anything like me, your bio might need to be rewritten about every other week. Each day I am learning new things about life, about myself, and about the whole rest of it.

I updated my bio on the sidebar, in attempt to update myself on my own ongoings.

Perhaps it's my age (22...young number, old soul...), or perhaps it is just my gift, but I am absolutely determined to leave no stone unturned. I am enjoying the process which comes with new territory and new ideas, which occur daily.

I have written the article, which I was assigned and had a deadline for. I wasn't sure if I still had it in me, but with the help of my good writing/editing friend Tim, I was able to pull through.

I have writer friends ;), shop owning friends ;), jewelry making friends, and so much more.

Each area I reach into feeds me in a new way.

You smell what I'm stepping in?

It doesn't get much better than this.

Happy New Week,

Sylvia C.

5 shops & new photos

Hello Friends.

I wanted to drop in and wish you a HAPPY FRIDAY in advance.

Today I landed my 5th shop. That means there are
now 5 shops in Kansas City carrying creations by Sylvia C. Those creations include collaged journals, framed photography, blank photo greeting cards, and jewelry. Some shops have one of my products, others have multiple items. At any rate, this is a very positive position to be in. I am elated.

I also took some new photos for my shop. They need to be lightened up a little, but I like the direction my shop is taking.

~~~
We are watching a sappy romance movie tonight and I can hardly wait.
It will be my first leisure activity for the week.
Thank goodness it's almost the weekend!
Best,
Sylvia C.
Creations
pink & unique ~~~ earrings by Sylvia C.
pray (like you mean it) ~~~ journal by Sylvia C.
Teapot Photo Card (blank inside) ~~~ by Sylvia C.
Here are some of my creations from the past week.
It's May. The birds are singing, and my creative-well is as full as can be...
I am seeing that staying away from my computer is actually a great way to stay productive.
But, I have an article to write (I'm on assignment here, folks! I pitched an article to a magazine a year ago, and now they want the article!), so I will need to find my way back to the bright screen.
(Also, really, I can't wait to become a regular reader/commenter at some of my favorite blogs again this summer!)
Hope your week is off to a great start!
luv,
Sylvia C.
This Weekend Only...Dum Da, Da Dum...
Hello friends!
This weekend only, I am offering a fun promotion! With any purchase, you will receive a free gift!
I'm not going to share what that special gift is, but I will say there are choices involved!
My efforts are going great with the local shops I have my stuff in...but, I would love to see a sale on
my etsy shop again soon!
I have a big weekend of creating in-store. The husband is away, and that always opens up some time.
Quote for the day:
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
Best wishes to you for a lovely weekend!
i WeNt WaLkInG
Life is fabulous. And while we're on the topic...so is this necklace.
I've been going on more walks lately, and I am enjoying myself immensely. Not too long ago, I started the book Walking in this World, by Julia Cameron.
Okay, Okay. I received this (wonderful) gift from my husband. For my birthday. Back in August. Why haven't I read it? Why?!? I dunno know. But I am reading it now!!
Her books make me feel more like myself, more connected to my work, and more spiritually content. Wow. That's a lot for a book huh?
If you liked the Artist's Way, you're gonna love this one, too. (That sounds like a promotion but let me assure you....Ms. Cameron is not paying for this post!)
Speaking of non paid promotions, I am wearing the most fabulous new deodorant. (Like you care?) Anyway, for all you ladies out there looking for the best of the best (on a budget), Dove has a new cucumber and green tea invisible solid. It's the best. Consider yourself well advised.
Anywho....here I am, just about one week later. I thought I would come up for air from all of my craziness, and share some of my ongoings. I can't say that this lazy posting style is going to get any better until the very end of May.
First and foremost, my creative business is thriving. I was hoping this kind of rush would hit at the end of May instead of the end of April, but I am by no means complaining.
I have a new necklace collection titled "float away." They are planned to hit the stores this week. (WOW! That sounds so uber-cool and boarder-line famous of me.) As soon as I can get my camera out, I will show you some of my favorites.
I miss my blogging connection, but I am learning tons of new things each and every day. New techniques, new lessons on business, and new things about myself.
Wishing you a happy Monday,
truly,
Sylvia C.
Oh Dear...
Oh dear... it's nearly been a week since I last posted. Strangely, enough I am in no mood to post tonight either. Actually it's not the mood, it's the condition...I've been headache stricken all day, and I worked over 9 hours at the j.o.b.
But, sometimes you just have to get over it.
So, I wanted to drop in for a brief moment to extend a hello, and to announce my self as "still alive."
Laura, I am looking forward to checking out that book. I just went searching through my own personal library last night to find some inspirational or spiritual reading material. Your timing is perfect!
Life is going great on the creative front. I've been exploring new jewelry making techniques, and creating more journals to take to shops in the area.
Hubby and I are doing great, too. We are already enjoying some warmer weather activities together. Walks, softball, and outside time on our deck together, just to name a few.
My nephew is also doing great. He is a healthy eater, and a happy boy. I can soothe him when he cries so that makes me an even prouder auntie.
I am pretty sure I know my new schedule for the next school year now. Mornings, starting this June will be spent as they should be spent for a growing artist-- sleeping. One shouldn't get ready for one's day when it is still dark outside. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. (You can quote me on that, if you want...)
I will be teaching one creative writing class on Monday and Tuesday, and Monday through Friday I will be working at my school's after care program with 3rd-8th graders. It will be a little less than 20 hours/week. The rest of my time will be used to grow my business. That's what I am calling it now. It's no longer a hobby, or an interest. It's my business.
So that is that.
Much love,
Sylvia C.
Pleasant Possibilities Await
Instead of jabbering about how great life is going right now, I want to share an inspirational piece I wrote a while back. (Right before jewelry making claimed my entire existence! ;)
Cheers!
Pleasant Possibilities Await
There is such beauty in allowing one’s self to be imperfect. First of all, allowing one’s self to fail is in a sense, also allowing one’s self the opportunity to succeed. Let's face it... someone who can embrace their own "failings" is someone who is unique ( especially in a society that is severely afraid to be imperfect)!
Without someone else’s “standard” of life dancing above your every thought, there is room for faith, dreams, and action. There’s room to be you. Who knew?
When you embrace your imperfections, it becomes quite clear that the road less traveled is actually a much better path, indeed. You are suddenly out of the rat race (because, as they say, the winner of the rat race is still a rat!), and into a quest of your own. Success is defined in your own terms, and happiness is just a thought away.
Wishing YOU total and utter happiness.
truly,
Sylvia C.
Future Plans.
* The bracelet featured on the top is adult sized, but it is being modeled by my lovely four-year-old niece. She did the piece such justice!
* The photo on the bottom is from my table at my first jewelry show. This was the center of my table. Does that sign look familiar?
~~~~~

Your excitement about my future excitement has gotten me so excited, I can't help but want to share it all with you now!
:)
So here it is in a nutshell:

I did not sign my contract for next year to teach kindergarten at the school I am at now. Instead, next year I will be teaching a creative writing elective class for 7th and 8th graders at my school.

This new position is not a full-time job, nor does it really even fall into the category of part-time. It's a side-job. I am happy to be staying at this school, but at the end of May, I will have oodles of time to devote to my creative endeavors. It's the big move I've long been hoping to establish in my life.

Creativity is flourishing, and my excitement for my future is in full Spring!

There's no doubt in my mind that God has helped me stay positive and driven towards this long sought after goal. And this is no time to stop seeking that guidance!

Today I am feeling so blessed.

Hope your day has been great!

truly,
Sylvia C.

Thursday, How Do I Love Thee...

Badminton Rackets ~ Available in my etsy shop

Let me count the days...
Until Friday!

I hope your week has been great. Mine...has been swamped. I have been working extra hours against my will. (Okay, I agreed to do it. My mouth said yes, but my heart said:
What, are you crazy?)

So, this week more than ever, I am looking forward to the future. I have been planning a new change for my life with more creative-time in-store. A few more weeks need to pass by before I unveil my plotting to the world...
;)

Despite the rush, it's been a great week. Yesterday, I met a wonderful shop owner in Kansas City who is now carrying my journals. I took every single one of them to her, and off etsy (for now). The shop name is Sage and Daisy -- her shop vibe is absolutely fabulous. Please go and visit her lovely blog and her lovely etsy shop.

You know you LOVE a store when you find yourself buying items AND putting items in your mind's wish list. Her store features many items from local KC etsians, so I am in talented, artistic company.

In other news, I finished my book last night. You know, that one I was holding out on sharing with you. I wanted to read it all the way to the end before I claimed it as a favorite.

Well, now I can declare it a favorite with great pride. (And sleepy eyes. I stayed up too late reading.)

The book is...

Eat, Pray, Love
by Elizabeth Gilbert

It is a fabulous book in my (fabulous) opinion, covering all three of those topics (eating, praying, and loving) with such beauty, detail and precision.

I have about 30 minutes before I have to jet back to work for a few more hours.
Gotta run.
Have a great evening!

Sylvia C.
